Our Story...
The first encounter - Random
It was the Information Day for high school students in October 2002 in the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). After helping out in their own programme, 4 freshmen wanted to see why Quantitative Finance (QFN) major is one of the hardest majors to get in. Hence the 4 curious souls pretended to be seventh formers, joining the crowd and asking QFN people questions…
All their questions got answered. When the "seventh former" asked the question on exam grades…a sincere QFN girl candidly disclosed her A-level grades, the “seventh former” Willy revealed that he got EXACTLY THE SAME GRADES AS SHE DID. “Hi we are actually from the degree programme next door, haha!”
That's how we met - so random isn't it? And we never thought that we would be a pair.
All of a sudden, a thought sparked in Willy’s mind that it might be a good idea to have a contact in QFN. While Cecilia might be embarrassed for being tricked, two of them still had exchanged their phone numbers. But they have never called each other for a full year.
The second encounter - a query
Nothing happened until August 2003, when Cecilia called Willy one night and asked:
“I am thinking of taking RMS as a minor and would like to ask for your comment. Are you free to talk now?”
And we talked for an hour. Since then many phone calls followed, and each time Willy got fonder of Cecilia and was hypnotized by her charm and honesty
The first real courting
It was 15 Feb 2004, Sunday. Willy called Cecilia to ask for notes of an econometric course that she enrolled but he only audited.
Cecilia was not sure, "do you really need it today (Sunday) but not Monday at school?" Willy said "Yes I do need it today"
The fact was Willy bought a rose on 14 Feb and wanted to disclose finally that he loved her, despite knowing perfectly that she didn't love him.
Event went on as Willy envisioned. Cecilia was pleasantly surprised for such a favour bestowed on her. She accepted the flower but not (yet) Willy. Despite the expected disappointment, Willy chose to continue the impossible journey to turn her heart to him.
Coming together
As the old saying goes - "hard work can turn things around". Willy was determined, persistent and consistent. Though he did give up at a point, he found Cecilia's personality unique and matching his almost perfectly.
It was Aug 2004, when the two went to a movie together just because they were both happened to be in Central, they held hands and Cecilia FINALLY felt the electricity that Willy had always been transmitting across the phone line.
Being apart but together
Sadly, from that point onward a real long distance immediately developed between the two love birds who just got together - Willy had to fly to Philadelphia to study in University of Pennsylvania for a year which was understood between the two. But at least Willy won the heart of the girl he loved and could hold her in his arms before he flew!
Since then the two had done so much together, even though they had been tested for another year of long distance just one year after being in the same city. Again the relationship survived. They have been in the same city for another 3 years then, until Willy told Cecilia that he would work in London for 15 months from January 2011 onward.
